Getting to Know Dr. Seifert!

If there is one veterinarian synonymous with exceptional cat care, it is Dr. Alejandra Seifert. Since joining Newberry Animal Hospital's doctor group in 2021, Dr. Seifert has established herself as our Main Street location's cat pro and has transformed the hospital into an oasis fit for even the most fearful of felines. As she celebrates her recent certification as a Cat-Friendly Veterinarian with the American Association of Feline Practitioners, Dr. Seifert sat down with Marketing Manager Olivia to reflect on her journey of becoming a vet as part of our DVM Interview Series:

Olivia: "Dr. Seifert, your passion for pet care is so visible in every appointment that I imagine it has to have come from an early age. What is your earliest memory of a pet in your life?"

Dr. Seifert: Thank you! My earliest memory would be my grandpa's dog, Pinky. He was a sweet German Shepherd and my first introduction to dogs in life.

O: Is there something about you that most people do not know, but would be surprised to hear?

AS: Funny enough, I used to be terrified of dogs when I was younger. I had several bad experiences with aggressive dogs and for some reason was just always afraid of them. It wasn't until probably my late teens that I started getting more comfortable around them and eventually grew to love them!

O: If you could go back and have five minutes with your ‘younger self’, how would you use that time, or what would you say?

AS: I guess it really depends on what stage of life I was in at the time but I would probably assure younger me that life gets pretty awesome in our 30's. We find love, a career that we are excited about, and there are endless opportunities coming up. All the experiences we went through are going to lead us to today.

O: How do you want the world to be different because YOU lived in it?

AS: I hope that I am able to make a difference in someone's life. Whether its by helping someone's pet at their time of need or by just being a friend to those close to me. I hope to inspire those around me to be their most authentic self.

O: When you find yourself with a sudden amount of free time unexpectedly, how do you spend it?

AS: Cuddling with my cats :)

O: Thank you for your interview! We always end it with a favorite quote. What is yours?

AS: The entirety of the "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" speech. But this one bit always gets me: "Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum."
