  • Holistic Pet Acupuncture Services | Newberry Animal Hospital | Acupuncture

Improve your pet's quality of life with veterinary acupuncture. This therapy is ideal for managing chronic conditions alongside traditional Western medicine. Acupuncture Acupuncture can be an excellent therapy for chronic conditions that are managed rather than completely cured with western medicine. Back What exactly is acupuncture? Veterinary acupuncture is used all over the world, either by itself or in conjunction with Western medicine, to treat a wide variety of maladies in every species of domestic and exotic animals. Modern veterinary acupuncturists use solid needles, hypodermic needles, bleeding needles, electricity, heat, massage and low power lasers to stimulate acupuncture points. How can acupuncture help my pet? Acupuncture works well for functional problems such as those that involve paralysis, noninfectious inflammation (such as allergies), and pain. This can include many musculoskeletal problems such as arthritis, disc disease, seizures, gastrointestinal disorders such as vomiting, diarrhea and constipation, chronic respiratory problems such as asthma, and skin problems, kidney disease and some urinary tract disorders. Driven by traditional Chinese medicine-trained practitioners, acupuncture can be helpful in the treatment of non-functional problems such as behavioral and developmental disorders. Acupuncture can be used to treat: Musculoskeletal problems, such as arthritis or vertebral disc pathology, and hip dysplasia Skin problems, such as lick granuloma Respiratory problems, such as feline asthma Gastrointestinal problems, such as diarrhea Selected reproductive problems In addition, regular acupuncture treatment can treat minor sports injuries as they occur and help to keep muscles and tendons resistant to injury. World-class professional and amateur athletes often use acupuncture as a routine part of their training. Acupuncture is often used on animals involved in athletic competitions like racing, jumping, and showing. How will my pet sit still for acupuncture? For small animals, the insertion of acupuncture needles is virtually painless. The larger needles necessary for large animals may cause some pain as the needle passes through the skin. In all animals, once the needles are in place, there should be no pain. Most animals become very relaxed and may even become sleepy. Nevertheless, acupuncture treatment may cause some sensation, presumed to be those such as tingles or numbness which can occur in humans and which may be uncomfortable at times to some animals. In most countries, states, and provinces, veterinary acupuncture is considered a surgical procedure that only licensed veterinarians may legally administer to animals.

Read More Integrative Services Integrative veterinary services emphasize care and healing that considers the whole animal, body, mind, and environment, and strive to prevent sickness through preventative care. Read More Dental Care Your pets will live a longer, healthier life if they receive regular dental care. By the age of 3, most pets will show some evidence of Periodontal Disease (PD). If left untreated, it can cause your pet to develop other health-related issues such as kidney, liver, and heart muscle changes. Read More X-ray or Radiographic Imaging A Direct Digital Radiologic suite reduces patient exposure and decreases the amount of time to get total quality images that allows your veterinarian to best use it to support a diagnosis. Read More Ultrasound This is a great tool to provide our doctors with a non-invasive look inside. One of the most common reasons for a veterinarian to use ultrasound is as an aid to diagnosis. Read More Tele-Pet Care What is Telemedicine? It is basically virtual vet care. Through our virtual care process, you can connect with one of our veterinarians from the comfort of your home or workplace. You’ll have the peace of mind and convenience that a pet parent looks for. (Also referred to as a Virtual Visit, or Digital Consultation!) Read More Pet Transport If you cannot bring your pet to see us at our hospital, you can elect to use our pet transport service to pick up your pet, and then drop them back off to you at the end of the day. We can also do house calls. Read More International Health Certificates Travel season means that each pet boarding a plane must have a good bill of health so as not to spread infectious disease to other parts of the world. The way they do this is through International Health Certificates (IHCs) performed by your pet's veterinarian, who must be endorsed by the USDA as a 'USDA-accredited' veterinarian. Learn more about how this service works, and how best to be prepared for this visit AND your travel! Read More Microchipping The microchipping registry 'Save This Life' has unexpectedly shut down its microchip registry.
