  • Pet Rescues (List) | Newberry Animal Hospital

We are proud to support local pet rescues. Learn about our community involvement & how we help sheltered animals find their forever homes through medical care. Pet Rescues Alachua County Animal Resources In addition to being our local government-run animal services agency, Alachua County Animal Resources is also one of Alachua County's largest animal shelters. Not only do they handle lost and abandoned animals, they also strive to give the adoptable pets in their care the best chance at forever homes with 'Doggie Day Out's and other opportunities for socialization and exposure to those looking to bring a new pet into their life. Dogs, Inc. This non-profit, formerly known as Southeastern Guide Dogs, helps create elite working dogs and provide life-changing services for people with vision loss, veterans with disabilities, and children with significant challenges such as vision loss or the loss of a parent in the military. All of their services—which include selective breeding and expert dog training; comprehensive on-campus student instruction; and the most robust alumni support program in North America—are provided at no cost to recipients. They are always looking for willing families to raise a puppy! Faithful Friends Rescue and Rehoming Faithful Friends is a volunteer-run pet rescue dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of dogs and cats in Gainesville, FL and surrounding communities. Since their founding in 2018, their focus has always been the animals themselves - providing the best care for each animal in their program while they search for a loving, permanent home. Humane Society of North Central Florida One of our veterinarians is on the board at the Humane Society of North Central Florida. The HSNCF is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. Most of the animals in their facility are transferred from Alachua County Animal Services. They are also known for their care for numerous underage litters of puppies and kittens during the overwhelming spring seasons. From the moment animals arrive at HSNCF, their number one priority is to facilitate their comfort and care, and then find them a loving home as quickly as possible. Operation Catnip Their goal is to reduce the population of free-roaming community cats since 1998. As a result of their humane Trap-Neuter-Return efforts, shelter admissions have decreased, reducing the number of community cats killed unnecessarily and the financial burden on county taxpayers. Puppy Hill Farm Animal Rescue Puppy Hill Farm works closely with county-run shelters to help dogs and cats of all ages find loving, responsible homes. They adopt their animals out from PetSmart on Archer Rd. every Saturday and Sunday. They are also known to help pets with special needs find the homes they deserve. Second Chance Rescue & Rehoming Second Chance Rescue & Rehoming is a non-profit animal rescue dedicated to giving pets from local county-based shelters a 'second chance' at life. They are known for saving pets from euthanasia due to overcrowding and pets in need of medical/surgical treatment before they are able to be adopted. All of their animals reside in volunteer foster homes so they are able to learn a lot about their individual personalities, likes and dislikes and are able to make a great match with potential adopters. Learn more about Second Chance here. Pets for Patriots Pets for Patriots helps shelters, rescues and municipal animal controls adopt some of the more challenged pets in their care to veterans living in your community - and partners with local veterinarians for ongoing, discounted care. In addition, they provide a range of benefits to help make pet adoption and guardianship affordable for our nation's heroes, while at the same time saving the most overlooked dogs and cats. Plenty of Pit Bulls Plenty of Pit Bulls is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating pit bull-type dogs as well as providing public education on these breeds. They work directly with county-run shelters to help find their most at-risk dogs permanent homes. Plenty of Pit Bulls are also known for their rehabilitation of dogs that come from cruelty or abuse situations in collaboration with national animal welfare agencies.
